Summary

A Leader project called ”Future horse keeping” was run between 2011 and 2013 at Julmyra. Within the framework of the project, sustainability work was conducted with a focus on nutrient leakage from horse breeding. At that time, a special risk investigation was carried out in which various measures were proposed. These were used in the application for the Rich Water project.

The physical measures were largely implemented at the beginning of the project, in 2017 at the same time as the 10 km fence was replaced at Julmyra. The advantage of the time of implementation in connection with the fence change was that it was possible to take a holistic approach to solutions such as fence placements to create protection zones. The disadvantage was that in some cases it meant that the measures were forced somewhat.

After the measures were implemented, information dissemination and follow-up took place. The interest has been great, and many lectures have been held about the measures that have been implemented. Monitoring has taken place by measurement with passive samplers and sampling with analysis of levels of nitrogen and phosphorus. The effects of the measures have not been measurable to the desired degree. It can be stated that installed sedimentation dams do not purify phosphorus as intended, but that a reduction of nitrogen takes place.
